Computing Club

There are a range of Computing clubs that take place throughout the year which harbour children's enthusiasm towards the subject.

Children who attend will be developing their knowledge and skills in Computing, utilising and analysing all aspects of Computing including hardware and software, giving them a fantastic opportunity to share and learn new skills in a friendly and relaxed environment.

The children take part in two different clubs.

Coding Club (Spring Term)

Coding Club was set up in 2014 and addresses the requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum. 'ICT' has been changed to 'Computing' in the new curriculum and one of the most exciting additions is computer programming. Children are expected to analyse problems in computational terms and have repeated experience of writing computer programs to solve problems. Coding Club does exactly that. Children who attend work with a range of different coding languages including:

  • Espresso Coding
  • Scratch
  • Kodu
  • Project Spark *Coming soon

The children design and make their own computer games which support learning in other areas of the curriculum. Some of the games made at coding club can be played both in school and at home.

Broadcasting Club (Summer Term)

Set up in 2013 Broadcasting Club utilises cutting edge technology and gives children the opportunity to share their experiences of West Park Academy. The children take of the role of a news team who have the responsibility of presenting a news broadcast using green screen technologies.

The children research events in school using a range of technologies including iPads, digital cameras, USB microphones and handheld video cameras. They then create scripts for news presenters to record using green screen technology. In 2015 the aim for the club is to create a live broadcast for pupils to watch outside of school.
